Stay away from pork and asparagus! My bf ate a huge meal, and afterwards had a really bad attack. His md said it was something in both of those foods that are bad for your gout.

CHERRIES - this is the most common reccommended food to prevent gout attacks. A 1950 study showed 1/2 lb of cherries (or the equivilant in cherry juice) greatly reduced/prevented gout attacks. Other good foods are; strawberries, blueberries and other red-blue berries, celery, banananas, tomatoes, seaweed, and green leafy vegetables.

You need to avoid foods with purine because they will raise the uric levels in your body and worsen gout. Protein rich foods often have purine. Here's some foods to avoid; sweetbreads, anchovies, mackerel, sardines, chicken, dried beans and peas, liver and other organ meats, herring, scallops, red meat, and turkey. Other foods to avoid include; greasy foods, coffee, sugar and white-flour products, alcohol, refined carbohydrates, yeast products, spices, dried beans and peas.
