One thing that physicians lack is adequate training in diet and nutrition. Typically, they will take one or two classes in this field and never learn about it again throughout their career. Sadly, the Standard American Diet (SAD) is high in allergens, fat, salt, sugar, additives (aspartame, MSG,...) and our diet is low in fiber and nutrients.
My wife suffered from arthritis at a young age, but fortunately, a naturalpath recognized this as an allergy to glutton that is typical in our genetically modified wheat products today. She is on a non-gluten diet and her symptoms disappeared completely. Any wheat product will result in an immediate return of her symptoms.
Another allergen that is common is milk and milk product like cheeses. Although these are addictive foods, many people are either allergic or intolerant of dairy. The vast majority of people in the world are allergic or intolerant.
I cannot diagnose your boy friends illness. I am not a doctor. However, one thing that may help is to change his diet to be devoid of allergens and devoid of other unhealthy ingredients. The best authority that I've found on this subject is a well-respected researcher by the name of Dr. Joel Fuhrman. His conclusions are shared by Dr. Dean Ornish,, Dr. John McDougal, Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Neal Barnard, and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr.
By switching to a low-fat, no-gluten, plant based, whole foods diet, you can more easily isolate what foods may be causing a problem. It's important to eat a balanced diet. I eliminated a number of physical ailments by switching to a vegan diet and I felt so much better that it became a lifestyle change.
Here is what's required:
- Leafy green vegetables eaten raw (spinach, collards, kale)
- Whole grains (avoid bread, wheat and other glutenous grains)
- Legumes (peas and beans) cooked and some sprouted
- Fresh whole fruit
- Flax seed (oil or meal) for Omega-3 fatty acids
- Colorful vegetables
- B12 and D vitamin supplements
Avoid:
- All commercially prepared food at restaurants and containers
- Extra Salt
- Extra fat and oil beyond the Omega-3 requirement
- Soda Pop, especially diet with aspartame
- Alcohol
- Fruit Juices (Whole fruits are healthier and contain more fiber)
- Refined sugar, high fructose corn syrup.
- MSG and aspartame additives
- Fluoridated and chlorinated municipal water and fluoride products. (Read "The Fluoride Deception")
- Dairy
- Excess consumption of fish, pork, meat, and poultry. (None is required, but a little is OK)
If your boy friend is taking drugs, he will need to coordinate with his physician to make sure that the dosage of drugs is adjusted as he becomes healthier on this diet. Some cholesterol lowering drugs will no longer be required and may cause problems if not adjusted or eliminated as his cholesterol levels improve.
