It could be an ingrown toenail. I had them on both of my big toes and it is very painful to the touch. If you let it get worse and worse it will start to bleed and puss. I know from experience. You have to go see another foot doctor to make sure they gave you the right diagnosis. If it is an ingrown toenail the podiatrist has to numb your toe with a needle and then basically rip half your nail off. I know it sounds really painful but you don't feel it and they don't let you look when they do it. They also do something to the toe so that you can never have another ingrown nail again. It is the only way to get rid of the pain trust me. I hope you don't have this. I hope this helps. :)
