How to relieve Gout..?

How to relieve Gout..?I am 18 years old & I think I have Gout. At first I thought my toe was hurting from surgery & a rash from adhesive. But I haven't had any adhesive on my foot in 2 weeks & the rest of my foot feels fine. I can't go to a doctor till next week. Someone please help me? Medicine isn't helping, ice & heat either. The pain is so bad I usually end up crying. I hate crying because I'm 18 & I should be able to handle pain. I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

I think what you are saying is that you had a surgery on your foot, which was wrapped in a dressing and secured with adhesive tape. It sounds like you have an infection. Signs of an infection: redness, swelling, pus draining from wound, pain, fever. If you have an infection, it needs to be treated right away.

Gout is a type of arthritis that is caused by high uric acid levels in the blood stream. Uric acid is a waste product that comes from eating certain foods. Normally the kidneys filter out excess uric acid. When the kidneys have a problem filtering out uric acid, it causes crystals to form in joints. These crystals are sharp and really hurt joints. Usually it's the big toe that is affected. It would be unusual for someone in your age group to have gouty arthritis. If you had gout, you could limit foods high in purines and drink plenty of fluids. There are also medications that can help. You can look up high purine foods on Web Md.

The best thing you can do is to call the doctor who did your surgery and get advice. I think you have an infection. If you can't see your doctor, go to an Urgent Care clinic or to the ER. Don't be ashamed of crying when you are having severe pain. Pain humbles all of us. We feel pain when something is wrong, so have your foot checked.

That sounds like the last 5 gout flare ups I had. Get to the doctor ASAP. Advil, Motrin, or Alleve will help with the pain, and a course of colchicine and prednisone will help clear up the gout. The doctor can test your uric acid levels and if they are too high, will prescribe Allopurinol.
