Usually gout does not get better in the daytime and get worse at night. So, I doubt that it is from gout based on what you said. To check for gout, press on the joint between your toe and your foot - if it is hot, red, swollen, and very tender there, it may be gout.
Consider it might be from arthritis or tendonitis. Maybe try some antiinflammatory like Motrin or Advil, as well as add some potassium to your diet.
If not better, go see your doctor.
