Here are a few things to help: first, www.best-gout-remedies.com is the best website I've found on gout. Read on that for purines and diets. I've done battle with gout for 12 years. I had to pretty much give up beer, and eat more fruits and veggies.

Next, having a diet low in purines is a good idea, but does not appear to be critical in getting rid of gout. It's as important to help the body get rid of uric acid (which is the cause of gout) as it is to reduce the intake of things that turn into uric acid.

Third, protein does not equal purines. Yes, the two are closely linked in the whole gout arena, and it's possible that many foods high in protein don't help the gout situation, but protein and purine are different things.

Bottom line that helps me: allopurinol (you need a script for that), drink tons of water (1 oz for every 2 lbs of body weight), talk to a doctor about losing weight slowly so that you don't cause your body to get gout.

Good luck to you!
