if you have/know about Lupus, please help!?My aunt was diagnosed with Lupus two years ago. She hasn't had any serious problems with it until about three weeks ago when she woke up screaming in pain from a burning sensation in her left elbow. Her whole arm was also swollen. We took her to the E.R. and they told her that her joint was inflamed and gave her some medicine for it and sent her home. Her arm got a little better but her elbow was still tender. We had to take her back to the emergency room last night because the knot on her elbow was larger and she was in so much pain all she could do was scream. They told her that she had a puss pocket between her joint at the elbow and that they didn't want to do anything about it in the E.R. because it could cause Staph, and they didn't want to risk it. They referred her to her regular doctor. This morning she went in and the doctor just mashed on it a lot and told her it was Gout, which is a type of arthritis. However, they called her tonight and told her that it wasn't Gout, but they didn't know what it is, so they couldn't do anything. If you have/know someone who has Lupus have you/they ever had this problem? What could it be? We've looked up some things online but nothing matches her symptoms. (Constant pain, burning sensation, swelling, tender, knotted.) Please help, she really needs relief.

These symptoms are caused by a complication in the joint - inflammation etc..
She should see the doctor.

My mother has Lupus. She gets things like this regularly. It could be a calcium deposit that has grown to massive size in her elbow. I would have her checked for Sjogren's syndrome. My mom's pains usually go away, but she has a constant pain of the skin and joints; sometimes even her scalp hurts. Lupus is a really hard disease to diagnose and learn anything about. My mother went for years from doctor to doctor until she was finally diagnosed. There's really not many ways to treat the pain that comes with Lupus. My best recommendation is the get your aunt tested for Sjogren's and try to find a doctor that specializes in autoimmune disorders.
