Sometimes I use the Mayo Clinic website.
It is very informative. Keep in mind, it won't replace a doctor's advice.
Good Luck and Hope you feel better soon!

yes! You need to totally change your diet and avoid the foods with high purines, as well as avoid any alcohol. There are certain foods which you need to avoid - and other foods which are beneficial, for example fruits rich in Vitamin C. And drink a lot, like water, tea, coffee.
It doesn't make sense if you take medication but your diet would still contain bad foods high in purines. Those are what cause the high uric acid levels.

I have chronic gout . I take Indocin as needed and you should get some prescription pain meds for the pain.. because it gets really bad at times.. If it becomes chronic you may have to take Colchicine . keep your foot elevated and stay off of it. Walking will only make it worse and longer to go away. Drink LOTS AND LOTS of water and cherry juice. Ice helps sumtimes if you can stand having the ice on your toe..sometimes it hurts to much to have anything touch it.
Causes of gout are different for everyone .. Foods with high purines are mainly the cause.
Message me if ya have any more questions.
