what causes gout?

what causes gout?iv herd that its caused by drinking too much alcohol but just wondering if this was true

Dr. Patrick V. Suglia
Drinking too much alcohol can certain lead to gout. Gout itself is a form of arthritis, and it is usually hereditary. What happens is that certain foods, including drinking too much alcohol, produce something called uric acid in the blood stream. This uric acid cannot be eliminated by the body correctly and gets "stuck" in the some of the joints in the body, usually one of the big toes. It can be very painful. The good news, though, is that by cutting out these foods, the level of uric acid can be decreased thereby relieving the symptoms.

It is a genetic disease and the symptoms are caused by excess uric acid in the blood which in bad cases can form minute crystals in joint cavities which cause mild inflammation and pain.
Alcohol may worsen the symptoms in some people but just drinking alcohol alone does not cause gout.

Hi Stuart,
firstly, no way is this or most any other dis-ease genetic in origin. The concept of "genetic disease" is a complete fantasy. What you do get is the self same dietary and behavioral habits taught by one generation to the next. Habits can be changed!

About twice each month I get someone in my practise with the diagnosis "genetic disease". In 24 years practice, this diagnosis has been right just once!!!

Gout, along with the other variations on the same theme (arthritis, rheumatism, arteriosclerosis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, etc., etc - a very long list) is caused by chronic over acidity and drinking "dead" water. Alcohol can exacerbate it because most alcoholic drinks are very acidic.

You need to do three things:
Correct your diet. There is a free introductory guide to human appropriate nutrition at http://www.543bookshop.com Just scroll down the book list until you find "Nutrition".
Get good, alkaline water. I'd need to know what country you're in to advise on this.
Delete the informational junk from your body water and your drinking water. Link for this is:

Blessed be

TRUE.
Beer is full of purines which are the arch enemy of Gout.
Malt spirits are also very bad for you.
Certain wines can also be bad, but this is a pending debate.
Try and drink water between each drink if you are drinking alcohol as it helps the kidneys flush the uric acid out of your kidneys.
Just rmember always keep hydrated and help your kidneys by taking the proper vitamins that alcohol will suck out of your body.
