My mom uses black cherry concentrate from a health food store. Also, she hates to, but cuts back on pork products.

Water, water, water (drinking). And watch out for energy drinks and other extreme diuretics.

And keep your weight down, exercise and watch your protein intake.

Once called "rich old man's" disease, it's now not uncommon to see gout in people in their twenties and thirties, who aren't even fat, due to increased consumption of high protein diets, protein shakes and energy drinks like Red Bull.

What happens is, your body can't process urea (uric acid, a by-product of protein consumption) fast enough, and if you're not hydrated and the urea saturation hits it's limit, like anything else dissolved in a solution, the acids 'crystalize', and start settling in your feet joints. They're like little shards of glass and are extremely painful. The only thing you can do then is drink LOTS of water to increase your blood-water level to re-dissolve them and take a strong anti-inflammatory for the swelling.

Uric acid come from your food intake. Red meats and alcohol contain a lot of this sources. Cut down your intake of all the sources, to control the uric acid level. If you are not taking this kind of food but still having this problem, you might need to consult a doctor for further check up.
