Piriformis Syndrome and Gout...?

Piriformis Syndrome and Gout...?I have Piriformis Syndrome (Sciatica). I also had gout before. I heard PS happens when your sciatic nerve is pinched or compressed by the gluteus muscles. Before I had this PS, I suffered from an acute gout attack several times. 4 years ago I think I had PS and it was misdiagnosed. But it eventually healed by itself. And now right before the recurrment of my PS, I had a gout flare. My gout has been travelling from joint to joint and I have this feeling that my PS is due to my gout. Because of crystal formations on my pelvis, my sciatic nerve is pinched. I haven't seen any related situation on the web. But I have this feeling my PS is due to gout. You think it's possible? or is it just due to weak gluteus muscles like they always say..

I need to get well or atleast feel better that I can walk straight. 3 days from now I will be graduating and I need to walk on stage. My parents have been waiting for this moment and I just don't wanna screw it up for them.

Gout is caused by uric acid crystals in the synovium of a joint and the crystals cause pain by irritating the synovial lining. Piriformis syndrome is a muscle induced pain syndrome. But sometimes the pinching of th sciatic nerve is not at the level of the gluteal muscles but at the lumbar vertebrae where the branches of the nerves exit the foramina. This is referred to as radiculopathy. The symptoms of radiculopathy may be very difficult to distinguish from piriformis syndrome because both are caused by irritation of the same nerve but from different causes. The treatment may be different too. I have not heard of any link between gout and either PS or lumbar radiculopathy (LS). Gout is a metabolic disease, either a high production of uric acid or decreased elimination. LS can be caused by many factors including spur formation, mechanical compression, metastatic disease, osteoporosis and pathological fractures. PS is also a neurological manifestation of a muscular compression syndrome.

Typically, massage, analgesics, and physical therapy will improve PS. LS can be difficult to treat depending on the etiology. Gout can be treated with analgesics (NSAIDs), colchicine, probenecid, allopurinol and in severe cases glucocorticoids.
