It's caused by uric acid in your blood.
You should be given medication to help with the pain.
Sorry to hear you have it so young, but it is this uric acid that causes the problem.
See your doctor.

Hi Stephen, I had my first bout with gout when I was 19. And, like the comments above I do have a family history of it too. From what I can tell you may likely have it for the rest of your life. Painful as hell too.

I am prescribed Alopurinol for it but I very rarely take the meds. I try to limit my meat intake and I stay away from seafood and organ meats since they are high in purines. Alcohol consumption ca mess around with your uric acid level too, I am guessing because of the secretion amounts from the kidneys. You can also learn more about it online at WebMD.

Are you using creatine? this is one that can trigger the gout.

I had gout when I was 15. It just happens to people sometimes. The anti-gout medications already mentioned knocked it out pretty easily.
