Also stop eating rich, fatty foods.

You need to review your diet and determine which foods "trigger " these attacks. Often referred to as "Rich Man's Disease", gout is generally a result of a protein rich diet. In my instance, peanuts sent me through the roof (peanut butter included). The good news is, over the years my metabolism changed and I'm no longer prone to these attacks. Good Luck.
