I'm confused, gout isn't an infection bone or otherwise and isn't treated with antibiotics. It is a problem with uric acid metabolism and often presents itself as pain in the big toe. What exactly is the infection you are being treated for?

If it's an infection then Augmentin XR is the proper antibiotic. Usually antibiotics are not given for gout like symptoms. Gout is the most common form of very painful inflammatory arthritis and is treated with anti-inflammatories and analgesics not antibiotics
Good Luck
