Yes. For one thing, eating too much protein can damage your kidneys.

"chicken consumption is a major contributor to heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and other diet-related diseases."
http://www.pcrm.org/news/health021218b.html

The US Department of Agriculture reports tell us that over 30% of US chicken is contaminated with Salmonella, and 62% is contaminated with Camphylobacter; these two pathogens cause 80% of the illnesses and 75% of the deaths associate with meat consumption.

Consumer Reports announced that 90% of the Camphylobacter infected chicken was antibiotic-resistant.

The Centers for Disease Control, claim that the widespread use of antibiotics in factory farming has contributed to the developing problem of antibiotic resistance.

Chicken isn't even so low-fat. Skinless chicken derives almost 18% of its calories from fat, while skinless roast dark chicken is 32% fat. The cholesterol content of chicken can be comparable to beef (25 milligrams per ounce).

Also, watch out for high arsinic levels in chicken meat.

k9mom ♥s you!
You have asked a really good question. Despite all the woo hoo protein diets out there, eating only protein is not a good idea. An overload of proteins in your body can effect things like kidney function if it is really taken too far.

As I am sure you know, there are very healthy carbs that are low calorie and help your body metabolize and balance the protein you consume. Vegetables like spinach, green beans, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower are excellent choices to have with your protein because they are very low in calorie and full of vitamins you need. I don't know how you feel about salads, but I only like a little bit of salad with a whole lot of ranch dressing so that defeats the purpose.

Also, in the morning, if you have a cup of cream of wheat with a protein source, or another cereal like wheaties or cheerios or special K are excellent sources to have with your protein. Additionally, have one piece of whole grain toast with one egg and a piece of fruit or small glass of juice. It is all very good for you. While it is not all protein, it is balanced and healthy and if you are trying to lose weight, you will.

I'm sure you know to avoid things high in fat or salt. I have a yummy recipe for turkey meatloaf that doesn't have the bread carbs in it that would probably make your eyes roll into the back of your head. A nice chunk of that with veggies would nicely compliment your efforts.

I hope this has helped. If I can help you any more, please feel free to email me.

Good luck!
