Uric acid is generated as the body's tissues are broken down during normal cell turnover. Some people with gout generate too much uric acid. Other people with gout do not effectively eliminate their uric acid into the urine.

Gout is a form of arthritis. When you get gout your body is producing to much uric acid and your body is not getting rid of the excess acid so then urite crystals form around the joints which swell and become red and cause tremendous pain. Your body naturally produces uric acid and sometimes just produces to much. Certain food can raise the levels of uric acid as well such as liver, heart, any organ meats, asparagus, anchovies are few that I know. Medications can also increase uric acid levels mainly low dose aspirin and some high blood pressure meds which is bad because another cause that can raise the levels are high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels. But there are good medications available than help control gout.

Bottom line: gout is caused by too much uric acid in the body. Why there's too much uric acid is the tough part, but usually the problem is that the body does not get rid of the uric acid like it should. Too much attention is paid to the foods that we eat. If you think about it, doesn't matter how much uric acid your body produces... if you can't get rid of enough of it, the uric acid pools in joints, then crystals are formed, then you're in trouble because the pain comes and it is nasty x 50.
What's worked for me in my 14+ years of doing battle with gout? Allopurinol, you can get that for a few pennies a day, with a script from doctor... celery seed pills, to help the body not produce so much uric acid... drinking a lot of water, 1 oz for every 2 lbs of body weight... and not drinking so much beer, ie. a 12-pack will last me 2-3 weeks on average.
Good luck to you!
