is gout hereditary or always passed on?Im a 22 year old male and my father has gout, his mother also has it. does that mean that i will get it? is it always passed on to the next generation? i have two brothers and two sisters. i want to know what the chances are that i will get it and what age is it likely to appear? thanks.

Gout is not hereditary. It occurs more commonly in obese individuals, sickle cell patients, kidney disease and diabetes. If these run in the family that may be why several family members have gout.
