If my foot isn't broken, then wtf?

If my foot isn't broken, then wtf?About 6 weeks ago, I was teaching a ballet class (on a lumpy concrete floor) and landed a scissor kick funny. I heard/felt a snap, and had IMMEDIATE and significant pain. Within minutes, the joint at the base of my big toe/side of the ball of my foot had become swollen and bruised. I had an X-ray that night, and apparently it showed an older fracture to the sesamoid bone, but not a recent break. The pain continued for several weeks, my doc finally sent me for an MRI last week. Apparently, the MRI showed nothing either. So now my doc thinks I have gout! WTF??? I'm 31 years old and otherwise healthy and in good shape....also, you don't get gout as a result of a specific trauma, do you? My foot is constantly painful and swollen, rest/ice/compression only helps temporarily, and I can't get an appt. with an orthopedist for 3 more weeks! So, I need a YA opinion! Anyone ever had a similar experience or injury? What was it, and how did you/your doc treat it? I need help!!!

okay I know how you feel I was a dancer I have had imense pain like you explained and my doctor tole my I had only torn soft tissues (ligaments) and now he's investigating the sesamoid bone which is highly likely considering the pain i have been having.

sometimes the sesamoid bone is bi-part and radiologists have a hard time differentiating a fracture and a bi-parted sesamoid so there is a good chance that it was fractured and they thought it was bipart if you have any reason to believe this talk to your doctor about it.

My grandpa had gout and it hurt him tremendously and he went to the doctor and said "this can't be gout" so they did x-rays turned out he had a stress fracture.

good luck.

You could have had gout and this recent snap just triggered it. Everyone has some form of arthritis but it doesn't always show or it takes a certain thing to release it. Go elsewhere and get a 2nd, 3rd opinion.

You should visit a podiatrist.

your not a doctor so you dont know what you are talking about so listen to your doctor

why dont people trust doctors what do you think they went to all of that school and training for nothing

I am a dancer. And trust I have had many injuries. Your bone is probably just bruised. And I do mean the bone inside your foot that happens to me all the time. Just stay off of it and prop it up and for 30-40 min have ice on it then for 30-40 min put heat on it. And do that for 4 hour straight.
