I am an Alcoholic and cant hold a job. I am now in AA. In Arizona, can I collect Disability ?I am 45 years old and cant keep up with the younger workers anymore. I been drinkin for many years and have health problems like Chronic Gout, Diabetes and who knows what else. In the construction industry, we have been working for years without health insurance so I havent seen a Dr. in ages. I just lost my job because I cant keep up with the younger workers anymore. Can I go on Disability till recover from my Alcoholism ?

As long as you have legit impairment than prohibits you from work, you can. And seeing as you're 45, thats a bonus. At least when it comes to receiving DB.

Alcoholism will not get you on disability.

As another poster said, even though it's a disease, a good portion of the recovery is in your hands, and disability does not recognize it as a bonafide disability because of the amount of your own willpower that goes into the healing.

However, the gout and diabetes could possibly get you at least partial disability, especially if you are losing jobs over either of those 2 conditions.

Your best bet is to get a physical from your doctor, and he/she should be able to facilitate what you need to do to get on temporary/partial/total disability.

Good luck with that. I have a friend who is physically disabled due to his work for years in the welding field and he had to hire an attorney to get his disability.
My sister had cancer in Arizona and she was able to get her disability because she could not work, but it was really hard to get it.
I guess like everything else, you just keep trying until you succeed. Meanwhile, can you find something else to do not in such a demanding field as construction? It looks like you have some computer skills. Do you have an aversion to working in customer service, like a convenience store or something?
Get a sponsor, start working the steps and have faith. If you really want to turn your life around, you will. It might not be easy, and it might not be the way you picture it, but it will happen.

It's very difficult to get disability these days. I doubt very much that you can collect. The best thing for you to do is
call Social Security and ask. Or see a Doctor and talk to
him or her about it. A Doctor has to sign all kinds of medical papers for anyone that is trying for disability. If you have renal failure then you can get it pretty quickly. The best of
