Does allopurinol for gout have affect cardiac disease or cardiac medications?My husband has been on allopurinol for 20+ years. Recently he had 2 heart attacks then coronary bypass surgery. He is now on lisinopril, toprol sl, lipitor and aspirin.

well, a number of very recent research works show that allopurinol is useful in heart failure. You shouldn't worry about the side effects of allopurinol on heart. I guessed there wasn't an important one. but just to make sure i checked my references once again and it was approved. Gout is painful so I wish you the best of luck. My father in law has suffered from gout and he changed his entire diet, knock on wood, and it hasn't returned.
