heat...

Heat. Ice can cause frostbite and freezing. Ice is only necessary for injuries like verrucas and sprains. Heat can soothe and keep you warm at the same time.

Definitely do not apply ice or extreme heat. Warmth is sometimes OK, but it can also make inflammation worse. You have to experiment and see if warmth makes things feel better, and if it does, go for it.
A good source of warm, slightly moist heat is dry rice or dry corn placed into a cotton sock or cloth bag, and then heating the pad in the microwave.

* Drink a bunch of water, I mean a lot! This will help flush the uric acid.
* Take Naproxen Sodium (Aleve) - This will help reduce inflammation.
* Keep drinking the Cherry juice, it will help but not immediately
All these things will help you get over gout but if you continue to suffer, then you'll need to get more help from your doctor.

Fellow gout sufferer here. I've not read much about heat/ice on the inflamed joint. There's other things you can do that will be more effective.
First, see a doctor and look into meds to help during a gout attack. Colchicine and Indomethacine are two that will help.
Next, there are meds that you can take to help prevent gout. Allopurinol is one.
Third, drinking alot of water daily is really important. Helps the kidneys to flush out more than normal of your uric acid. Drink 1 oz for every 2 lbs of body weight.
Fourth, there are more natural remedies to try. Latest one I'm doing is taking celery seed pills. There's a brand new drug out for gout, I forget its name, and celery seed pills might do the same thing as this new script. You can read about it here on the best gout website I've found so far: www.best-gout-remedies.com.
Fifth, making your body more alkaline (opposite of acidic) looks to be very important. Again it helps your body get rid of the uric acid. One way to do that is to mix 1/2 tsp of baking soda in 8 oz of water and sip on it, drink that 3 times a day.
Name of the game is this: help your body get rid of uric acid, and help your body to not create so much uric acid. You can do that through meds, natural/herbal, and water.
Good luck to you!
