How do i make him see he has to go to the doctors?

How do i make him see he has to go to the doctors?My Dad has gout, and it's really disgusting, he's had it for about a week and it's died down, i've researched a little and it says to drink heaps of water and don't take aspirin, but i don't just want to rely on books, i want him to go see a doctor about it, btw it's on his foot, he doesn't drink so it couldn't be about increased consumption of alcohol. How do i make him go see a doctor? he doesn't want to go, he says it's alrite. What do i do?

Relax - don't worry about this. Ignoring gout doesn't cause a medical risk. It would make sense for him to see a doc to get prescription gout medication, but If he is OK with the pain, then let him be. Avoiding purines in the diet is the most important thing, so seeing a doc isn't always necessary.

I believe gout can be very painful, and yes it is good to drink plenty of water, as this will help to flush it out, also I am sure that if the pain gets too much for him he will seek help, remember it is his choice.

um. well if u really want him 2 c some1 call an ambulance. he will have no choice but 2 let them check him over.

although the bad point 2 that is a waste of ambulance.

just tell him if it gets worse i want u 2 c a doctor

and ask him if it was me with the gout what would u do?

Tell him that he can take a medication (alupurinol) that will prevent future outbreaks of the uric acid excess. (Gout often attacks the big toe). Tell him the only way he can get that medication is to have it prescribed for him so he needs to go with you to visit the doc. Tell him that the one outbreak is only the beginning of a long and reliable relationship of future outbreaks. The alupurinol really works....
