gout cured by eating foods low in purines and without using medications, anyone?I was recently diagnosed with gout. My doctor mentioned using Allopurinol, but I would prefer to try eating low purines (veges, milk protiens, etc, no alcohol). first, and hopefully not use the medication I have done the research, and I know supposedly diet only controlds about 15% of uric acid , but has it helped anyone to the point that they did not need medication?

there are two types of gout 1.acute gout2.chronic gout acute gouty attack can involve any healthy individual following a high purine diet and alcohol consumption.but in chronic gout there is an special defect in metabolism of purines.There are 3 types 1)a genetic defect 2)renal deficiency 3)lesch nyhan syndrome 4)previous chemotherapy if you have not previous history of gout in your parents and duration between attacks are not too close and they are not severe you may controle it by diet .If it fails you have to recieve allopurinol and/or a uricosuric agent like probenecid or sulfinpyrazone, based on your kidney function level.Always remember: avoid dehydration and drink a lot of water during the day.
