Uric Acid blood test.
Craig
Uric acid blood test is pretty useless for the diagnosis of gout. The body deposits uric acid into the tissues to try and lower the blood levels, so you can have gout and normal uric acid levels (as the body has lowered it). The uric acid blood level is only any use in monitoring the effects of treatment.
The clinical signs of gout are pretty obvious, so no tests are really needed. If its not clear or an infection is suspected, then the only test of any use is taking some fluid out of the joint and looking at it under a microscope for the uric acid crystals.

Agreed with Craig. I was just at the end of a gout attack, had some blood work done, and my uric acid level was within an acceptable range. So a uric acid test in the blood may or may not indicate that you could have gout.
Obvious locations of body pain are the big toe, ankle, or knee. If you enjoy beer/alcohol, red meat, organ meats, pop (soda), foods with high fructose corn syrup, don't eat many fruits/veggies... you've got gout.
If you've got joint pain, go see a dr. Best of luck to you!
