My husband ended up in a wheel chair his was so bad! When I started juicing every day it went away and has stayed gone for the most part, every time he thinks it's coming back, we start juicing again and it hasn't been a problem for him any longer. We woud juice 4-5 carrots, 3 apples, 2 pears, 1 big or 2 small beets, red cabbage, 2-3 celery stalks, parsley and anything else we had on hand to juice. This made 2 big glasses full and then we squeezed a half a lemon in each glass. It's sweet and good. Hope this helps! He had tried eating the cherries & the cherry juice and it didn't help much!

A low purine diet with little to no alcohol will do a lot to prevent gout. Foods with purines increase risk of gout in people who are susceptible to gout.
These foods include seafood and other meats, yeast and yeast supplements, and alcohol are the BIGGIES.
Purines increase uric acid which can lead to gout.
This link has a nice patient handout on a low purine diet:

I had episodes of Gout about a year apart. The doctor said they cannot be cured but they can be controlled. My doctor put me on a once a day medication of allupurinol to lower my uric acid (which is the main cause of gout !) and told to minimize (not totally avoid) food (salmon, liver, etc.) and drinks (beer) that is high in purines. Do some research about purines and minimize your intake of foods that are high on this.
Lastly, are you sure you have gout and not arthritis? Otherwise , your doctor may prescribe a whole different treatment.
