Ankle heat. Possibly gout?

Ankle heat. Possibly gout?I have had random moments several time a day in the last week where I have experienced heat in my left ankle, but that is my only symptom. Do you think it's serious enough that I should see a doctor? Could it be anything else?

I can be gout or other form of arthritis, the only way to confirm it is through an orthoscopy biopsy to examine the content of the synovial fluid of your ankle. But since orthoscopy involves certain level of risks and is an expensive biopsy, it is not no practical to go through the hassles just to find out the answer.

Actually, it is better to observe the symptoms for a few more weeks and do some read up about gout and arthritis before you go to see a doctor. This is because it hard for the doctor to make a conclusion without blood test or detail description of the symptoms over a period of time. And usually the doctor will prescribe some anti-inflammatory drugs or pain killers that will only disturb the observation. Do NOT take any drugs until the root cause of the problem is confirmed or you will end up with some side effects caused by the drugs that will further complicate your condition.

There are 2 major types of arthritis, rheumatoid or septic. Rheumatoid arthritis is the result of the wear and tear of physical stress over the years, the pain develops gradually through a long period of time. Septic arthritis is caused by fungus, viral or bacteria infection, which is more sudden and can trigger series of immune reactions such as inflammation and pain.

Gout, on the other hand is caused by the formation of uric acid crystals within the synovial fluids of the joint. One might not experience anything before the first attack, which is often mistaken as a sprained joint. Gout usually begins at the lower joints. It usually attack in the middle of the cold night and the painful gouty inflammation can last for days to a week more. Then common (although not so precise) way to confirm if it is a gout is through a blood test to find out the level of uric acid in the blood.

Gout or arthritis may not be life threatening, but the long term effects of the painful joints can be devastating and greatly reduce the quality of life. Take care of your body, or it won't take care of you...
