Do I have gout?

Do I have gout?So I woke up this morning and my big toe hurt and has been sore all day and it feels kind of like it is jammed and needs to pop, so I've been trying to pop it all day and it doesn't feel any better. My mom said it could be gout and I looked it up and a sign of it is that you have pain in your big toe which is what I have. I don't know if this is it or what but I'm in college and I gotta walk a lot everyday so if it doesn't quit hurting it is . Is it usually only in people a certain age? I'm 18 now. And I have read that consuming red meats, alcohol, or seafood can trigger it. I haven't had seafood since I went on vacation over a month ago, I hardly ever eat red meat, and I haven't drank any alcohol in over a month and rarely do anyway. Any help on what to do would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would have it looked at by a doctor.

All you can do is monitor your diet and when you wake up and its sore, make a note of what you had for dinner. Strawberry's is also another food item that can trigger an attack.

Gout does typically affect the big toe,and can be in any age. It is a form of arthritis charecterized by a high uric acid level in the blood. Uric acid also causes kidney stones. Typically in a young person it means you are not drinking enough water. You need 64 oz. a day to stay equal, once behind increase by 1/2=96 oz/day minimum. Anti-inflammatory medicines help. If this doesnt make it go away, you need a Rx. Anti-inflamatory (Indocin) and Possibly Allopurinol (Another gout medicine). Anyway, good luck!

You are a little young to be having gout. Gout was so painful that my father couldn't get out of bed. It hurt so much he couldn't walk on it comfortably. Hope that helps.

Could you possibly have an ingrown toenail, a bunion, or been stung by something like an ant or spider?

If it doesn't go away you probably should go see a doc.

Gout pain is very very violent, you can't step on it, even you can't wear a shoe a slipper, socks etc. Gout attacks generally occurs in men at the ages of 30-40. I don't think it's gout. But can be any of the otoimmune arthritis. (but this is a little probaility too, because toe is a very rare initiation joint for otoimmune arthritis) It's probably due to trauma. Don' t worry.
