What is wrong with my little toe?I thought i had athletes foot because i have had that before and my little toe started feeling funny between it and the next one so i started using cream on it. Usually this works with just a few applications but it didn't help at all so i tried the spray, then when i still felt worse i bought a new cream in case the other one was out of date. Anyway, none of these worked and it started to feel nothing like athletes foot and i noticed my little toe was swollen and tender on the top round the side and underneath. It's not actually on the little toe its at the base of it. It has got worse all last week and now its unbearable wearing any shoes, even trainers (unfortunately i work on my feet all day.) I have been looking up things on the internet, i thought it might be gout at first as i do have arthritis in my hand and knee and i also have a rich diet but now i'm not sure. It doesn't seem like a callus as there is no thickened skin, i suppose it could be the start of a bunionette... what do you think?
Tumbleweed
If it's at the base of your little toe (the 5th metatarsal), it's probably a bunionette. Another indication is that the swelling appears to be pushing the little toe into the other toes. It's actually caused by a deformity in the bone-structure of your foot and can be hereditary. Wear wide, comfortable shoes (or no shoes where you can!) until you can see a doctor to assess the severity of the swelling. You may also want to take a mild anti-inflammatory to reduce the, um, inflammation. Try not to knock it against anything and make sure you sit with your feet flat to the ground so as not to further inflame it. It may help to apply ice. Hope you don't need surgery andif you do that it goes well! Either way, good luck!
